Saw what?

So as I was saying, I was looking for Saw whet skulking around the undergrowth, ducking under Cedar branches and generally trying to avoid thorns when I came upon THIS.
When I first ducked my head under the Cedar branches I thought it was a puffed up Saw whet but it turned out to be a missing squirrel tail.

Apparently not this guys.....

Wanna fight? Put 'em up tuff guy!

A missing squirrel tail? I don't imagine a tail is much more than bones and fuzz...perhaps the little owl snips it off before moving its meal to somewhere more private?

I really like reading about your adventures! Thanks...

Yeah, this was probably the non appetizing left overs from a Red Tailed Hawk meal. Saw whet are tiny and wouldn't be a match for a squirrel, although Great Horned Owl would be more than capable of zapping a squirrel. Regardless it looked like the left overs from a red squirrel from what I could tell. I guess you just never know what you'll find when you venture out into nature! Thanks for popping in Beverly.
