Cool, I rarely see sapsuckers, was this is your yard? I am currently building a platform for bird seed like in your yard. I want to have a bird list too :)
Have seen sapsuckers in my garden, but not very often. This guy was hanging out right next to a hole that I thought had potential for a Screech owl. I didn't see him at first and then he popped up. I took some more shots but they were all screwed up by the backlighting.
Once I added my platform feeder, both the number of birds and number of species increased a LOT. I just put mine together with some leftover 2x4's - very sturdy and heavy ;-)
LOL - mostly just blind luck Dguzman! I took about 10 photos and this is the only one that was usable. I played around with the aperture settings as I was shooting.....
Impressive photography. I have only seen one of these here in 47 years and got some photos but not so nice. I still have some, I think, on my birds blog.
I have brought back my hawks blog. Blogger saved the name for me. I have started posted in it again and have a lot of pictures yet to post.
Bird Girl and Christopher I must admit that I've never had much luck with Sapsuckers - they are always HIGH up in the trees or moving very fast. This bird was pretty slow moving and if I had seen it when it where it was first perched I would have got an AMAZING shot.
Aluajala, I'd love to see some photos of the birds you get in Moscow!
Hi Abe, thanks for popping in and for the generous compliment. I'm a BIG fan of your photos.
Thanks so much for popping in everyone and for commenting.

NICE photo! How'd you get such a great photo with that backlighting!?

How did I miss this last week? My blog-surfing these days is just not up to snuff. Great shot - exactly the type I hope to someday get!
