Mystery nest
These photos were taken about two weeks ago. This bird is nesting in my neighbors’ small Japanese maple. The nest is only about 4 1/2 feet off the ground. Any takers on an ID?
Good news and bad news, actually more bad than good. So far no one has the right ID for the nest and unfortunately the nest was robbed so I have no baby photos. The good news is that the birds have built a new nest in my pine tree. I found the nest this morning and I will definitely blog about it.
It's difficult to show the size of the nest with a photo, so I'm going to say that he bird is bigger than a Sparrow. Richard was pretty close with his two guesses.

Robin or Catbird
Whoa, tough one. I'm not experienced on egg and/or nest id, but I'll throw my hat into the ring with Rose-breasted Grosbeak.
Interesting challenge!

Well, I'll go with guess numero dos: Chipping Sparrow?
Sorry to hear the nest was robbed, but glad they're trying again. And that you found the second nest - nice!

Hmmm. Not a Robin or Catbird...the next one that comes to mind is a Mocking Bird?
Bingo Chilibean - well done! As I mentioned the Mocker has renested in my yard and I'll be doing a post about it soon - stay tuned.
